Have you been sewing????

At our May meeting we presented our first group project.  So have you been working on your name tag?  I know mine is done, and I have seen pics of a couple others floating around on facebook!  There's still time to whip one up!  And whoever comes with a handmade name tag will be entered into a prize drawing for something handmade.  I have been working on that something handmade and am super excited to give it away!

There is only one rule when it comes to the name tags .... it has to be handmade!  The sticky paper name tags don't count!  So be creative and use whatever medium you desire!

Also, don't forget about bringing your scraps for the fabric basket swap!

Here are the guidelines:

1. Bring in a gallon size ziploc bag of scraps/fabric. Let's make sure that the scraps you use are a decent size. You might want to put a fat quarter in the bag for them to use for the lining! Keep in mind the more fabric you bring the more options your partner will have to make something wonderful! There's no need to add batting or interfacing ... your partner will take care of that part.

2. Put your name on the bag.

3. Bring your bag of fabric to the meeting on June 4th.

4. At the June meeting we will swap fabric bags. You will then take your partners bag home and make a fabric basket for them. Keep record of who your partner is!

5. Bring the completed fabric basket back to the July meeting and we will present them to our partners! You can even fill the baskets with a few goodies if you like! I know I plan on it!

So just to recap if you choose to play along, for the June meeting you should bring:
1. A handmade nametag
2. A ziploc bag of fabric scraps for the fabric basket swap
3. Items for Show and Tell!!!

I can't wait to see all of you there!  There are some great things planned for this month!

Fabric Basket Swap and Tutorial Links!

It's time to start prepping for our first swap for the McKinney Modern Quilt Guild!  We have decided that a fabric basket will be a great swap item to start with.  Below I have listed quite a few pictures.  If you click on the picture it will take you directly to the tutorial!  Here are the details:

1. Bring in a quart or gallon size ziploc bag of scraps/fabric.  You might want to put a fat quarter in the bag for them to use for the lining!  Keep in mind the more fabric you bring the more options your partner will have to make something wonderful!

Thank You!

Out first meeting was last night and I know I wasn't the only one surprised by the turnout.  We had 38 amazing ladies come and join us for our first meeting with the McKinney Modern Quilt Guild.  I am so excited to see how this group connects and grows together!

We discussed several things at the meeting, one being the meeting time.  As a group we decided moving the start time back to 6:30pm would be best for the majority of schedules.  So from now on we will start at 6:30!

This first meeting was used to introduce the ladies to the Modern Quilt Guild movement.  I highlighted several benefits of being affiliated with the National Guild.

Joy, our Vice President, was also able to share a quick notion demonstration!  She introduced our ladies to the Sewline Needle Threader.  For anyone who does hand-stitching, this is a must have notion.

For those of you who missed our first meeting I wanted to let you know about the project for this month.  Whoever brings a handmade name tag to the June meeting (the sticky paper ones don't count), will be entered into a prize drawing.  Here are some examples in case you need a little inspiration.

So, like I said, if you bring in a handmade name tag to the June meeting you will be entered into a special prize drawing! The prize also might be handmade!

Also we prepped our first Challenge!  I will be posting more about that later this week!  So get to work on those name tags and we look forward to seeing you all June 4th @ 6:30pm.
