April 2015 Meeting Minutes

Meeting Minutes of the meeting of 7th of April 2015

The meeting was called to order by President Sarah Huechteman on time.
37 members and 2 guests were in attendance.

Committee Reports
Welcomed and performed introductions of guests.  Advised that last month’s minutes have been posted on the blog.

Treasury report was given by Chris.

Stephanie discussed charity blocks that were collected. Goal of 15 charity quilts for the year.  Charity quilt kits were made and offered up for people to take home to complete.  Charity sew day was March 29th here at Stitched with Love from 1 pm to 5 pm.  Christy won the charity drawing. Quilt tops were made at the sew day and looking for volunteers to machine quilt them.  If you bring back a quilted quilt, you get a prize.  You do not have to bind.  Quilt kits are also available if you want to piece tops.  If you have completed quilts you want to donate, we will accept those as well. 

New Business
Catherine is running the bi-monthly member spot light.  If you want to be spotlighted, go to http://bit.ly/mckmqg People will be randomly selected and spot lighted twice a month.

Discussed the new bee blocks.    We currently have three bees occurring right now.  See Ellyn or Sarah if you are interested in joining a bee.

Pastel Modern fat quarters were collected. Three drawings occurred.  Sandy, Nelda, Kristy won. Each month we will have a theme for fat quarters.  Anyone who wants to participate brings a fat quarter for the lot and receives a ticket.  Drawings are held to win the lot of fat quarters.  Next month’s theme is Polka Dots.

One Yard Rip off reveal occurred.  Everyone showed off what they made with their one yard ripoff fabric.  Prizes were given from drawings.

Riley Blake challenge should be due around July.  Each individual will have to post their own photos to the modern guild.  Plan to bring your finished project to the July meeting so we can vote on our favorite.

Next month bring a gallon size zip lock bag of your favorite scraps.  Scraps will be swapped and pillow covers will be made for those that brought their scraps. (Include a half yard with your scraps to make the backing to the pillow form.  16 x 16 inch finished pillow form.

Looking for a volunteer to co-chair Sherry’s position of VP Membership/Greeter.  Martha Wolf volunteered.

Lisa Hauth stepped up to discuss a possible retreat at Sunset Retreat in Sunset, Texas, north of Decauter.  Lisa stated that she could get dates for June or September.  If we can get 20-22 folks to participate, then no other people will book. 3 nights, includes dinner on Thursday, lunch and dinner on Friday and Saturday, and brunch on sun.  Continental breakfast Friday thru Sunday.  $225 for all 4 days.  $175 for Friday thru Sunday.  4 beds to a room.  Sewing room is the same size as the shop here (Stitched with Love).  There is a small quilt shop area in the retreat building in case something is forgotten.   There is also a massage therapist available to book.  (More interest in September rather than June)  Once dates are secure, we will send out an email.

Quiltcon Presentation by Catherine and Alice occurred.

Show and tell occurred.

Door Prize drawings occurred.

Birthday certificates were handed out.

Pay your dues. $50 cash or check.

Next Meeting at 6:30 on May 5th.

Meeting was adjourned timely.

May Meeting- Half Square Triangles


We look forward to seeing you all this Tuesday, May 5 at 6:30pm at Stitched With Love. Our program this month will talk about half-square triangles and all the fun we can have with them.
A few reminders for this month's meeting:
1. Fat Quarter Lottery- Bring fat quarters and possibly win many! The theme this month is Modern Polka Dots
2. Pillow scrap swap: If you want to participate in the pillow scrap swap, be sure to bring a ziploc bag with scraps + a large piece for backing that you would like to have made into a pillow. For more details be sure to check out Ellyn's blogpost.
3. Current dates for the upcoming retreats are June 11 - 14 and September 17 - 20. Please email Lisa Hauth at sewmodernquilts@gmail.com if you are interested in attending either or both retreats.
4. Don't forget to bring and wear your nametag- if you have a new nametag you will get an extra doorprize ticket.
5. Did you finish your charity quilt and bee blocks? Be sure to pack those in your bag!
