October Meeting: UFOs & Halloween Bag Swap!



Our October meeting is just around the corner! Our own Martha Wolf will be inspiring us to finish some lingering UFO's in our closets, so take a moment and make inventory of projects you've got left to finish!
Swap: Halloween Tote Swap-  Bring a Halloween themed tote with you to swap: goodies optional in the tote (but it's halloween... and candy seems appropriate!)
Fat Quarter Lotto Theme: Modern Halloween
November is our demo month- if you have a a quick item to demo, be sure to let Sarah or Jessi know.

August 2015 Meeting Minutes

Meeting Minutes of the meeting of 4th of August 2015

The meeting was called to order by President Sarah Huechteman on time.

29 members and 3 guests were in attendance.

Committee Reports
Welcomed and performed introductions of guests.  Advised that last month’s minutes have not been posted on the blog yet, but will be soon.

Treasury report was given by Chris.

Retreat will be September 17-20. Sunset Retreat in Sunset, Texas, north of Decatur. If we can get 20-22 folks to participate, then no other people can book. 3 nights, includes dinner on Thursday, lunch and dinner on Friday and Saturday, and brunch on sun.  Continental breakfast Friday thru Sunday.  $225 for all 4 days.  $175 for Friday thru Sunday.  4 beds to a room.  Sewing room is the same size as the shop here (Stitched with Love).  There is a small quilt shop area in the retreat building in case something is forgotten.   There is also a massage therapist available to book.  Contact Lisa Hauth to make a reservation and arrange payment.  15 people have already booked.  Day sewing is available as well.

Community sew day will be planned soon.  Will probably be on a Sunday.
Charity blocks were collected. Goal of 15 charity quilts for the year has been made. We accept blocks, fabrics, quilt tops, finished quilts, etc.  Charity quilt kits were made and offered up for people to take home to complete.   Carol won the charity drawing. Quilt tops were made at the sew day and looking for volunteers to machine quilt them.  If you bring back a quilted quilt, you get a prize.  You do not have to bind.  Quilt kits are also available if you want to piece tops.  If you have completed quilts you want to donate, we will accept those as well.
 
New Business
Catherine is running the bi-monthly member spot light.  If you want to be spotlighted, go to http://bit.ly/mckmqg People will be randomly selected.

Next month’s challenge is to bring a modern book and make a bookmark to go with it and we will swap books and bookmarks next month.

Modern Solid fat quarters were collected. Four drawings occurred. Kena, Alice, Catherine, and Kristi won. Each month we will have a theme for fat quarters.  Anyone who wants to participate in the fat quarter lotto brings a fat quarter for the lot and receives a ticket.  Drawings are held to win the lot of fat quarters.  Next month’s theme is Modern Autumn Prints.

Templates for the Modern Quilt Guild Challenge are available here at the shop.
Fort Worth guild has contacted us about Sherry Lynn Wood.  Author of Improve Handbook for Modern Quilters.  We can possibly book her for our group depending on cost in February.

November 30th is the due date for QuiltCon Entries.

Shannon Page is presenting next month about Improv with Intent.

Program was to show our beginning project or quilt and show our most recent project or quilt.

Plano Quilt show is next weekend, tickets are available here at Stitched with Love.

Show and tell occurred.

Door Prize drawings occurred.

Birthday certificates were handed out.

Stitched With Love is looking for new instructors.

Next Meeting at 6:30 on September 8th.

Riley Black challenge projects were revealed.  We voted on our favorite and the winner wins a little prize bucket.

Each month we will have a theme for fat quarters.  Anyone who wants to participate in the fat quarter lotto brings a fat quarter for the lot and receives a ticket.  Drawings are held to win the lot of fat quarters.  Next month’s theme is Solids.

Program by Jo Ellis occurred, MakeDo.

Show and tell occurred.
