History

The McKinney Modern Quilt Guild was formed in 2013 after a group of modern quilters started meeting at Stitched with Love, a quilt shop in McKinney. Until 2017, the guild met at Stitched with Love. The shop stayed open late and let members have special shopping time after meetings. It was delightful! The guild had its first retreat in September 2014 at Creative Cottage in McKinney. In 2015, the guild hosted their first national speaker, Lee Monroe of May Chappell Quilts. What fun we had! We had many fun retreats over the years. As the guild grew, the space available at our favorite quilt shop shrank. We moved a few times but have been meeting regularly at Fire Station #7 in McKinney, Texas until the pandemic of 2020. We learned to be excellent online guild members and met on Zoom from March 2020 to 2021. After the pandemic, we returned to our original meeting place at Stitched With Love, moved to the McKinney Fire Station #7 when we outgrew the shop, and now meet regularly at the Mckinney Performing Arts Center in downtown Mckinney since November 2023! In October 2023 we celebrated our 10th anniversary hosting a small quilt show of 31 quilts made by members. The show was a success and had over 200 visitors from local to out of country visitors!
