Community Service
We are looking forward to the next delivery to CASA which will be in August hopefully the week following the guild meeting. Please bring any items that you are finished with to the guild meeting so we can put the finishing touches on things and get them prepped for the delivery. There will be new kits to pick up, as well as at least one quilt to bind and one quilting kit available.
Does your employer track charitable time? Our organization is a 501c3, which means time spent on guild work may be eligible for being tracked by employers who encourage tracking of charitable time. Our quilts are also donated to a charity (CASA of Collin County in McKinney), so any time worked on Community Service quilts should be eligible as well. Events
August will continue the Scrap Jar Fun - see what gets made and who gets the scrap jar for the next month.
Looking forward, we have the Modern Textile Art Sale - 12” Square Sale + 1-Yard Low Volume Rip-Off Challenge - what to make with your winnings. (if you did not participate in the low volume rip-off that's fine, just use low volumes from your stash in your project) Create a piece to be mounted on a canvas square to possibly sell for approximately $100/item at a venue in downtown McKinney. Quilted with batting, no binding needed, and the back doesn't matter as it won't be visible. A group will add a black outside border to your finished item and mount it on the canvas, so please make sure your item measures 12.5" square. We need to collect them at the September Meeting so that they can be prepped in time to hang at a venue in downtown hopefully in November. Fundraising
The next DESTASH sale is October 17. We will be accepting donations at the August, September and October meetings of quilting related items to go into the destash sale. The previous sale really pulled in some much needed funds, so this is a good opportunity to go through things you no longer need, and help the guild. |
