The Fort Worth Modern Quilt Guild had a quilt designed around the Trinity River system for last year's QuiltCon charity challenge quilt.  They are selling raffle tickets to win "Modern View of the Trinity."  Part of the proceeds will go towards supporting the Alzheimer's Research done by the UNT Health Sciences Center Foundation in support of Healthy Aging.  See your local FWMQG member for tickets.

We're looking for a Bee Swap Mama!  Talk to your favorite board member or nominating committee if you are interested in being a Bee Swap Mama or if you are interested in joining - this is a great time to join as the year rotation is ending for both bees currently.  This month Bee3 made Christina Union Jack blocks.  Jeanne collected multi-triangle blocks from SewBeeIt.
We showed off our Pantone Color of the Year + Paint Chip Challenge items!  Stephanie won the drawing.

We are in the middle of our a new monthly challenge called Modern Mystery Block of the Month, created by Alice & Catherine Dutton.  Our goal as a modern guild is to create together and continue to learn more about modern quilting techniques -- this should help expand your arsenal of quilting skills!  Our Modern Mystery quilt will be revealed one block at a time.  You must attend the meetings (or pick up an extra paper copy at Stitched with Love) to participate.  We will not post pattern instructions online.  Last month's "Drunkard's Path" were on display and a prize was drawn - Carol won the drawing!  New patterns for "Big Bertha" were handed out.  Bring back your completed block next month and you will be entered into a drawing to win a PRIZE.  Leftover patterns not handed out at guild will be left at Stitched with Love, first come first serve.  Once they're gone, they're gone!  If you need help constructing the block, e-mail alicedutton at gmail dot com.   Tag your creations on social media with #modernmysterybom and #mckmqg.

Community Service
Community Service Sew Days are ongoing!  Join the McKMQG on fifth Fridays of the month from 6-9 pm at Stitched with Love.  We will learn a new modern sewing technique or pattern and create quilts for our charity, Alberta's Hope.  Future dates include: Oct 7, and Dec 30.  Join us on October 7th from 6-9 pm at Stitched with Love!

Dusty also accepts donations of fat quarter's (FQ's) up to completed quilts for our charity at the start of each guild meeting.  At our charity sew days, we mostly use donated orphan fat quarters to make charity quilts - this is a great opportunity for your mystery (i.e. it's a mystery why I bought this) FQ's or half-yards sitting idle in your stash.  You'll be entered in a drawing for a prize with quilt, quilt top, or FQ(+) fabric donations.

MCKMQG delivered 3 quilts for #quiltsforpulse and 5 quilts for #quiltsforpeace.  Thanks to Melissa Eubanks (@myfabricrelish) and Lynn Farestad for quilting.  Thanks to Christina Lee for binding!  These heart quilt projects are now wrapped up and you can see gifting photos on the Dallas and Fort Worth Modern Quilt Guild websites.

Our QuiltCon charity quilt challenge group has formed, our team of designing & organizing includes Dusty, Kelly, Alice, Martha F, Paula, & Stephanie.  A design is completed and now everyone from the guild can come and help put the quilt together!  Sign up or come Sunday October 23, 1pm at Stitched with Love!  The deadline for quilting & shipping is the first of the year, so we want to complete the top in October.

A call was made for nominating committee members to nominate new board members for the coming year.  Volunteers were solicited and the nominating committee will be Sarah H, Joellen, Nelda, and Gail P.

We're looking for a Bee Swap Mama!  Talk to your favorite board member or nominating committee if you are interested.  Also talk to Ellyn or Allison if you are interested in joining - this is a great time to join as the year rotation is ending for both bees currently.

Don't forget about your 1 yard rip-off for our Pantone Color of the Year challenge!  The challenge is to use fabrics from the ripoff plus one "helper" color (drawn from paint chip bag) and make something.  Projects should be 80% or more from the challenge fabric & the helper color.  Finished items are due at the November meeting.

We are in the middle of our a new monthly challenge called Modern Mystery Block of the Month, created by Alice Dutton. Last month's "A New Kind of Plaid" were on display and a prize was drawn.  New patterns for "Drunkard's Path" were handed out.  Bring back your completed block next month and you will be entered into a drawing to win a PRIZE.  Sarah won the drawing this month!

Retreat this winter will be held at Sunset Retreat Center.  Online signup is available
here.  A deposit will be due to hold your spot & final payment will be due at the December meeting.

Our quilting bee queens collected blocks.  If you want to participate in or join a bee, we have a sign up sheet at the check-in desk.  This month, Allyson's B3 group made blocks for Lynn and Ellyn's group SewBeeIt made Plus blocks.

Program

This October, Ashley Leon presented a trunk show and discuss quilting tips and techniques with rulers.  Your board members listened to your requests for more technique presentations so we invited Ashley to teach us a little about piecing with the scary angles.  Ashley delivered!  She specifically discussed the Jaybird Rulers and had a wonderful trunk show for examples of how to more easily piece these previously intimidating shapes.  Jaybird rulers will enable you to quickly cut then piece diamonds, hexagons, jewel shapes, and triangles out of strips of fabric.  Taping sections off with masking, painters, or pretty washi tape can keep you focused on what shape you're currently cutting.

In November, we will have a Pinterest party!  You've all made things you found as a free pattern on Pinterest.  Bring or make one thing to give ourselves ideas to make holiday sewn gifts!  Please give Ellyn the link to the item you'll bring.  Links will also be on our Pinterest page.  Having trouble deciding what to bring?  Ellyn already has some items pinned!  You can find the link in the newsletter, on the blog, on Facebook or to be completely thorough, here!

In December we will hold our holiday potluck/party and handmade ornament swap!

January will bring us Jessica Darling.  She owns a quilt shop in Corpus Christi and is a Villa Rossa pattern designer. Her coor theory program will build up to her workship "Color Party 2.0" class, teaching her
Goodnight Starlight quilt pattern.  Until December, cost is $60 per person for the workshop.  After the December meeting, the price will be $70 and we will open up registration to non-members.

End of Meeting Fun

Join us for our next meeting!  November 1 @ 6:30, 6:00 social hour
