May Meeting:
Charles Cameron

Charles' work explores the use of bright colors, color value and mixture of precision and whimsy to reinvent more traditional quilt patterns and designs.  He is excited by setting rules for color placement and constructing blocks in an efficient, assembly-line fashion, then trimming blocks with a 'wonky' tilt and relying on his eyes' intuition to place the finished pieces in a way that maximizes impact.

Non members of the guild can sign up to attend the meeting via the store on the guild webpage.

Dusty will be doing an ice dying workshop at Sewcial Creatives June 6.  There will be a sign up sheet at the May meeting, cutoff for workshop signup is 5/25.
The workshop fee will be $50 plus the cost of supplies. There will be more detailed information and cost info at the meeting.

Membership

Did you know? We can use our Membership Receipts to get 10% off at McKinney Knittery. If you have thrown away your receipt, you may be able to take a photo of it in the receipt book maintained by the Membership Committee.

Community Service

Stop by the table in the back to pick up kits, or borrow a book with pattern ideas for quilts.  We have some kits that are already cut for you to start, and we have a couple of tops ready to quilt especially if you have a long arm, and quilts ready to bind!  Lots of opportunities.

Does your employer track charitable time? Our organization is a 501-3c, which means time spent on guild work may be eligible for being tracked by employers who encourage tracking of charitable time. Our quilts are also donated to a charity (CASA of Collin County in McKinney), so any time worked on Community Service quilts should be eligible as well.

Events

We will be looking forward to having a Low Volume One Yard Ripoff at the July Meeting.  This month, Chris Simon will bring samples to show and will explain how the ripoff works for those who have not participated before.   This will give everyone some time to get their fabric before the July Meeting.

The Scrap Jar will also be returned and a new participant will be chosen at the May Meeting.

The sew along is making the Falling Stars quilt pattern, designed by Jessica Plunkett.

This is one of the many benefits of being a member of the Modern Quilt Guild - check out the sew along, along with many other things in the resource library!
