A Great Meeting with Great People!

I am loving how our group is coming together.  As of the third meeting last night, we have 22 members!  We have such talented ladies in our guild and I am so impressed and inspired by all of their strengths!  Last night we presented our baskets.  You can see all of the pics in the McKinney Modern Quilt Guild flickr group, but I will highlight just a few here on the blog.  Every single basket was fantastic and I could tell that our members put their best work into this swap.

Bettepat made a beautiful grey basket with a pink lining for Sarah H.!  It was stuffed full of things even a mini basket.  I wonder how many fat quarters would fit in there?!

Stephanie's partner really wanted baskets that she could use in her kitchen.  So Stephanie made some utensil trays!  How perfect would those be for a 4th of July party!  I might need to put that project on my to-do list.  I don't know if this is the pattern that Stephanie used but here is a link for a tutorial that looks very similar!

We also discussed blogging and the benefits of following some of the amazing blogs that are out there.  I will work on getting a tutorial put together on how to set up a bloglovin' account as well as a list of some popular modern sewing blogs.

Our "Show and Tell" was also pretty amazing.  I have several projects that I have added to my to-do list after last night.  The first one that I would love to work on this summer is an Amy Butler pattern.  Jessie brought her Birdie Sling to show off and it was gorgeous!
She used a vintage sheet for the main part of her bag.  It makes me want to go vintage sheet hunting!  Sara M. mentioned that The Salvation Army in Sherman is a great place to find vintage sheets!  I might have to stop by there this week!

Sarah H. also brought a pillow cover and two mini quilts to share.  We might be using the wonky cross pattern for our first community service project!  Julie will be rolling out the details about that at the August meeting!
There are tons of great projects from "Show and Tell" that you won't want to miss seeing, you can check those out in the flickr group.

We presented our new swap last night!  The Low Volume Charm Swap!

For those of you who missed the meeting we also introduced the low volume charm swap.  If you are interested in signing up, just email mckinneymodernquiltguild@gmail(dot)com.  You must sign up and be a member to participate.

Here are the deatils:
1. Purchase 2 different low volume prints (1 yard of each).

2. Post pics of the fabrics you purchase in the MMQG flickr group to make sure that we don't have any duplicates.

3. Cut 56 - 5" charm squares from each yard of fabric I would use Elizabeth Hartman's tutorial, which you can find here.

4. Sort fabrics according to the directions in the flickr group.

5. Bring the charm squares to the August meeting and we will sort and get the charm squares back to you that night.

Just in case you need a good explination of low volume you can check out this Moda blog post.
