December 2016 Meeting Minutes

Call to Order
Our December meeting was called to order at 6:37 by our President, Stephanie Schroer.
Committee Reports
Our committee reports are posted online monthly, saving meeting time for the fun stuff!
Membership: 41 members present with 5 guests
Treasurer: We started with $5629.21, expenses were $25.99 and income was $100.00.  We ended with $5703.22.
Secretary: November minutes are published to the blog.
Community Service
Our QuiltCon charity quilt challenge group is formed, our team includes Dusty, Kelly, Alice, Martha F, Paula, & Stephanie.  A design is completed and the quilt is moving along!  The team has been working hard, including a sew day hosted by Stephanie last month.  The deadline for quilting & shipping is the first of the year to be included in QuiltCon 2017.  Joining the team is BettePat, who has agreed to longarm quilt this for us!
Business
We now have a set-up and tear-down sign-up for individual meetings!  It's a great way to contribute to the guild and socialize without much responsibility.  See the sign-up form to volunteer.  If there's another way you'd like to be involved, there's space for you to enter your ideas as well!

Stitched with Love has been very gracious to help out guild members with block/swap drop-offs.  They have now created a bin for us to use in the back room.  It is clearly labeled as our "guild box" and is there if necessary - please try to make contact with your fellow guild members & arrange meet-ups to swap items.

Our new board members have been elected to serve 2017-2018 after nominations by Sarah H, Joellen, Nelda, and Gail P.  Board positions are: Communications - Martha Fipps, Treasurer - Kelleigh Sedate, Membership - Mary Hoffenstein, and Community Service - Chris Simon.   We also have a new Bee Swap Mama, Christina Lee.  She will be overseeing our Quilt Bee transition in the new year! This is a great time to join or transition out if you need.

We are at the end of our Modern Mystery Block of the Month challenge, created by Alice & Catherine Dutton.  Our goal as a modern guild is to create together and continue to learn more about modern quilting techniques -- this should have helped expand your arsenal of quilting skills and modern theory!  Our Modern Mystery quilt was revealed one block at a time and everyone's "Big Bertha" blocks were up for display.    Charlene Taylor won the drawing for finishes.  We received setting instructions this month.  If you need help constructing the block, e-mail alicedutton at gmail dot com.   Tag your creations on social media with #modernmysterybom and #mckmqg.

Retreat this winter will be held at Sunset Retreat Center.  All payments should be in!
Program
In December we held our holiday potluck/party and handmade swap!

January will bring us Jessica Darling.  She owns a quilt shop in Corpus Christi and is a Villa Rossa pattern designer. Her color theory program will build up to her workshop "Color Party 2.0" class, teaching her
Goodnight Starlight quilt pattern.  Until December, cost is $60 per person for the workshop.  After the December meeting, the price will increase to $70 and we will open up registration to non-members.

End of Meeting Fun
Show & Tell was held.  One birthday certificate was handed out.  Door prizes were drawn - Ellyn & Mittie won!  Stitched with Love revealed this month's discount (15% off all regularly priced items/1 yd cuts).
Join us for our next meeting!  January 3 @ 6:30, 6:00 social hour.
